Healthy Family Formation is an approach to educating the next generation regarding the benefits and skills associated with restraining from sexual activity outside of marriage and forming a family within a healthy marriage. A healthy marriage is one that involves a lifelong commitment to each other and to any children or extended family involved, and that actively supports the physical health, moral development, and emotional growth and maintenance of all parties without fear of violence or infidelity.
The Healthy Family Formation Coalition (HFF Coalition) is a network of pro-active citizens and organizations concerned about preventing chaotic family formation and maintenance.
The relationship between the ways we form our families (Family Formation) and child well-being is well documented by the social sciences. Incidences of adolescent sexual activity, out-of-wedlock births, STDs including HIV/AIDS, absentee fathers, never-married families, cohabitation and divorce directly impact everyone in our state either socially and/or economically through child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, sexual assault, poverty, criminal behavior and/or gang-related activities.
The positive impact of Healthy Family Formation on child well-being is documented in such publications as Why Marriage Matters, Thirty Conclusions from the Social Sciences, to teenage brain research found in Hardwired to Connect, to The Taxpayer Costs of Divorce and Unwed Childbearing. There is overwhelming and compelling evidence that children fare better when they grow up with their two, married biological parents that are authoritative, loving and firm, and have high expectations for their personal behavior.
Organized and staffed by Heritage Community Services, the HFF Coalition encourages adults to communicate with co-workers, colleagues, churches, non-profits, social service agencies, clubs, and others within their spheres of influence. By creating dialogue around these important issues, we want to motivate concerned citizens to take action that supports healthy family formation.
